Who We are

In late 1952, 129 men and their families joined together to help each other improve their quality of life.  The Official SMWIA Charter for Local Union #49 in Albuquerque, New Mexico was signed on January 7, 1953.  It is temporarily being displayed in the beautiful old copper charter frame from El Paso Local #188.  Brother Jeep Gililland spent many hours restoring Local 49's original charter frame and the result was well worth the effort.    The charter, encased in the newly restored charter frame, symbolizes the beginning of many struggles and lots of hard work.
